Petit Chou Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ous/ Take a look? Apparently, hours after the earthquake we had in the UK, there were other tremors as far as Japan, chile and New Zealand ..!! Surely they cant be connected can they ? I mean if I was really really paranoid or something I'd be thinking "underground nuclear testing" or "alien invasion" I guess our epicentre can't be linked to Japan and New Zealand but why all at once in the same night...or is it just that we dont actually take the trouble to reference such stuff because it never happens on our doorstep? p.s Thanks for correcting my category posting...my mistake but as I live in Sheffield and we're talking in Sheffield about Sheffield .....
paradigmshif Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 i reckon its something dodgy, i initially thought it came from the menwith/flyingdales/particle accelerator area... had a look at the tectonic plate boundrys and the nearest ones are halfway to america and the bottom of spain so not exactly local... hmmm? i remember an earthquake a few years back that was (subjectively) more rumbly wheras this one seemed to built and then have a violent spike in the middle which said underground nuke/wierdness to me... then again i ama bit of a conspiracy freak so i wouldnt pay too much attention to my ramblings
Classic Rock Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 So we've had 12 in the last 48 hours on the planet, but before that nothing since May 06. Sounds like Earth is giving itself a stretch and a tidy up. I do wonder what has prompted it all to happen though. I don't have a particularly scientific background but am sure that someone will read this and can explain what's happening.
sallonoroff Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 So we've had 12 in the last 48 hours on the planet, but before that nothing since May 06. Eh? Where'd that come from? There are plenty... happening all the time... http://www.emsc-csem.org/index.php?page=current&sub=list .
Classic Rock Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Ahh, I misread the original OP's link. You're all doing well finding these websites crammed with stats though!
SaxonLeigh Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 a programe i saw on the climate the other day had a bit about earthquakes in it. it was showing what caused the tsunami on boxing day in 2004 & a few other earthquakes. there was this bit the narrator said that made me think a bit differently about the earth. the edges of the plates spread out over the world are all conected like a spiders web, an earthquake in a particualr part of the world can cause movement else where miles away & can be years later. so that earthquake we experienced could be cause by something that happened years ago. just a thought. also, i saw this other TV show, 10 things you never knew about earthquakes a month or so ago & apprently the moon has bad earthquakes that last for hours, sometimes days instead of seconds. so glad we dont live there.

" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article3442675.ece?token=null&offset=24 Wow I never knew that. I used to live in an area where there was a fault in the valley and every few months there was a tremour. It was accepted by the locals as it was a regular thing. I've never seen it documented anywhere though. Is there a website which shows all the tremours recorded in the UK?
commuter Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 119 worldwide so far this year! I wonder how that compares with other years?
