Marijuana - How Has It Affected You?

Blimey, shame they don't have a money-back offer, isn't it? ;)

I think this is all heading a bit off-topic - as waxon has said, there's no need for this thread to turn into a pro or anti argument.

err that would be a waste of money, meant no damaging after effects. waxon has a blinkered view that its evil when in fact you can smoke weed now and then and have no mental damage at all.

How do you know it left no damaging affects just because there was no "high"?

Erm how is it me with the blinkered view. I am totally aware of the "good effects of drugs". You presumed because of my views I have never smoked weed. Surely refusing to accept that even on an irregular level they can have some ill effects is having a blinkered view. Have you asked anybody close to for an honest opinion on if your behaviour is different when you have something to when you dont?

Although I have never smoked it in my life it has still affected me. The presence of drugs in nightclubs has detered me from visiting them at times. Not always - I have been to clubs but I feel I would have gone to them more if it were not for drugs.

What is it about drugs that stops you going to nightclubs exactly? There is as much of a drug culture in your local pub as there is in a nightclub. I have known people pop a few pills for a midweek quiz.

they are people who have taken it to the extremes, try talking to people who smoked it now and then and dont do it anymore.
To be honest, when I started smoking it, it was good fun. The first couple of times were a little freaky, but after that it was great.

It's when it becomes part of your lifestyle that it becomes a problem.

Eh? Tha'what lad? Man, I've been kicked out of more clubs for possession (and embarassibgly dealing, schoolboy error) than I have fingers on both hands. I usually go to nightclubs to avoid the drugs! If I sit around at home I'm more likely to get wasted than if I'm out dancing and having a good time! The most I see of drugs in clubs is people with concrete jaws and eyes like saucers telling you they love your shoes...

In terms of actual drugs in clubs, like I say, you're more likely to get kicked out than anything

Just want to say thanks for all the posts, pm's and support that've been offered! Really good and encouraging to know that there's people out there who've been through the same and that it was just as difficult for them. To the people who've offered help and talk if it's needed, many many thanks it's really appreciated. I think the best thing now is to face up to what needs to be done, sever my ties with it and face the cold turkey.

I think putting updates on here might be a good idea actually. Will be helpful to hear people's experiences and memories from when they were going through the same. Again, thanks forummers, can't say how much inspiration this has been, now...

Where's that turkey?

:)

That's great, I'll look forward to hearing what you say, make sure you're honest, say how you're really feeling even if you don't think it's what people would want to hear, or if you fall off the wagon! I'd also make plans to do definite things out for a few evening so it doesn't end up as your default activity.

I know this might sound odd but my advice would be don't think "right I'll just get battered one last time and then that's it" just take each day or so and think I'm not having any tonight cos I'm doing this.. rather than putting a huge barrier in your mind that seems impossible to cross.

I was lucky in that being pregnant gave me the impetus to stop and most of my smoking friends had had enough too, (my main times doing it were whilst backpacking abroad) and my boyfriend wasn't interested in it but I was still tempted and had a bit - you can convince yourself it's ok really, but think about how you really feel. I felt so guilty after having that bit I had no more. I have to admit some days I'd love it again but I'm out of the culture of doing it as a pasttime and that's a relief.

Good luck, you can do it!

people can take cocain, esctacy, trips, ket with no effects if they take it in the right enviroment, know what they are doing and it is done in moderation.

doing something now and then doesnt harm you and i think this is a subject you can only really talk about if you have experimented.

I agree but the OP is not talking about now and then. I actually think that because it has been thought of as safe, non addictive, declassified, better than booze, cannabis use has a reputation for being OK and so you take it thinking it's ok and ignore the warning signals, the fact you're having more and more, waiting to get back to it. People keep that quiet because they want to think it's ok and take it without worrying, but you know it's not doing you good, it's not really a friend!

I've never been a big one for drugs, but went through a brief phase whilst going out with a guy I'd picked up for sex after a serious relationship ended. He was a really nice guy, good looking, and hung surprisingly extravagantly...however, not only did he have the rubbish memory, rubbish motivation and vagueness of a heavy user, but he also had ejectile dysfunction. He'd been a user for so long (elder brother got him into it at a shamefully young age) that he didn't actually know what a full ejaculation was as he'd never had one. Initially the sex was great because it'd go on for hours, but after a few weeks it got really boring because it never led anywhere for him. Conspirator - just be grateful this hasn't been one of your side effects so far.

Oh, and then he started doing mushrooms and smoking heroin. He was still a nice guy the last time I saw him, but could well be a completely psychotic ***k by now.

Good luck giving up. Let us know how you do.:)

Thanks for listening, discuss...

Actually ... my previous reply was less than helpful.

I used to smoke the stuff, way too much, when I was around your age. Something, looking back now, I regret very much. It had a simular effect, as you describe, plus, I was having seriously scarey 'other worldly' experiences. Things happened that terrified the living day-lights out of me. Looking back now, I can see how that was a good thing, in that it prompted me to give it all up, and change my ways. It didn't seem good at the time though, I felt like my life was in a total mess, and would never improve.

My previous comment on this thread, is a reference to something Jimi Hendrix said (or played), and also something I had experience of; feeling (knowing) myself to be 'dead'. Inside myself, I guess I was dead. However, I actually believed, that I was really dead, and that I was experiencing some kind of virtual reality life, purgutory, or hell? No matter what I say here, words will never, not even remotely, begin to describe the hell I was in.

I don't know if any of this is helpful to you Conspirator, I hope it is. I think maybe it's something we need to do for ourselves, it's one thing someone telling you what happened to them, but it's another going through it yourself, hitting your rock-bottom, whatever that is for you. If I could reach back through time, and talk to the me I was back then, I'd defo say stop NOW, and go do something constructive, exercise, anything. I'm not sure if I'd have listened though, I thought I knew it all. Ha.

I wouldn't say that all drugs are bad or evil or anything, that's up to the individual to make that decision for themselves. One thing the great man, Donovan says, in the alternative version of the song 'Riki Tiki Tavi' ...

Well, Ive taken every drug there is to take and I know

That the natural high is the best high in the world.

Ah, natural high best high in the world.

Oh no no no, no more no more no more.

Laboratory synthetic stimuli

Only goes to fog up your third eye.

Oh ma

Well, natural high is the best high in the world.

Oh, natural high is the best high in the world

Donovan was pretty much anti-drugs after his trip to India and meeting with Maharishi.

Having taken a few drugs myself, in my day, I have to agree, and I've come to the same conculsion, natural high is the best high in the world. It's being you. You don't need to add anything to you, knowing who you are, and awareness of yourself, nothing better.
