Marijuana - How Has It Affected You?

I've had first hand experience of what it's like to live with someone who is addicted to weed.

Initially he used to smoke the odd couple when he went out, and ended up with him smoking about £80 per week (over a 12 year period). He became paranoid, angry with me for no reason (although he'd imagined a reason and fully believe his paranoid self) sometimes violent (smashing stuff up). He always said it wasn't a problem as he didn't smoke much????? I used to find myself being a complete nag. I asked and begged him to stop, but all I got was "it's not a problem, it's all in your head", "you're paranoid", "you're a control freak". The thing was, when we first got together I was known to have the occassional puff myself, then I grew up, When I mentional my loathing for it he'd say "you knew I smoked it when you met me, why should I change just because you've turned into a boring square". We also have 2 kids and although he tried to hide it from them, well, kids aren't thick are they??

The house stunk, he stunk, we were always skint, we never did anything together and after putting up with it for years I finally left 18 months ago.

I used to smoke it a lot then gave up about two years ago haven't had any since, i used to have about 8 joints a day with my mum, it was pretty bad id just wake up, roll a spliff before doing anything else, it made me so paranoid to the point where i wouldn't leave the house incase i got stabbed, ghosts in my house, not to mention problems with my ex boyfriend :| also i would eat all the time and it made me put on weight, my skin was grey ugh im just glad i got out of it!!

smoked it for years from age of 14 - now and again its okay but most the skunk about nowadays blows my head off - people who smoke regular will swear they don't get any side affects and yet you see all the trademark paranoia in their behaviour, its quite funny to watch. If i smoke it regular i get severly para so it is hard to find the happy medium where i enjoy it.

they are people who have taken it to the extremes, try talking to people who smoked it now and then and dont do it anymore.

I have and to this day they are unaware of how diffrent they were when they smoked it to when they didnt. Please dont presume I am naive just because I dont smoke it myself. It is something that I have been around a great deal and have been on the end of its effects on a person many times.

I think when someone is smoking large quantities at such a young age when the brain is still maturing and changing, this is probably when you are most susceptible to harmful effects.

It's like any drug, things effect people differently - if you are susceptible to paranoia, low mood, mood swings etc weed and psychedelics aren't the best thing to use! The experience and effects of any drug is pre-determined to an extent by existing mental state/mood

Waxon I see what you're saying but without being inside that person's head and knowing their state of mind before smoking, how can you know exactly how much damage weed has caused? I'm not saying anyone's immune to effects but everyone has a different bassline emotional and psychological makeup and different levels of use.

Just want to say thanks for all the posts, pm's and support that've been offered! Really good and encouraging to know that there's people out there who've been through the same and that it was just as difficult for them. To the people who've offered help and talk if it's needed, many many thanks it's really appreciated. I think the best thing now is to face up to what needs to be done, sever my ties with it and face the cold turkey.

I think putting updates on here might be a good idea actually. Will be helpful to hear people's experiences and memories from when they were going through the same. Again, thanks forummers, can't say how much inspiration this has been, now...

Where's that turkey?

Im not saying I do know what is going on inside a persons head. That is something I couldnt possibly claim to know. As I said my perspective is from the behaviour of my close friends. These are also friends I have grown up with and the change in them was considerable. Im not saying i do know exactly how much damage the weed caused. I am not a doctor for a start. I am talking about my experience of the changes in my friends and loved ones and how diffrent they are under the influence of it. It is naive to presume that your close ones will not be extremley aware of the affects on the person smoking.
