Bladesman
The thing that really gets my back up is the idiots who insist on driving there kids 300 yards to school, then double park on very small residential roads so that the actual residents cant even drive through! And how I love it when these people also decide that a massive 4X4 is required for the job. Why o why?? The rush hour is such a nice place when we dont have the school run idiots, I walked nearly 2 miles each way to school so why people insist on driving their overweight kids 300 yards i'll never know! Yeah we have that problem just up the road from us. Parents who have massive 4x4 parking and just blocking peoples drive ways up. If they are not blocking someones drive they are blocking half the road and causing traffic. These parents don not need 4x4 cars (trucks) I very much doubt they take them off road. Magilla
I know that there have been a few threads lately about parking and such like but I went to Mcdonalds last night, turned into the car par park and although it wasn't packed out there weren't many spaces left. To my amazement there was a "smart car" taking up two spaces!!!!! Yes a smart car, one of the smallest cars in the world and it was parked slap bang in the middle of two spaces!! Now why would a person think that it is ok to do this?? Where are your senses and why do you have to be so greedy??? I presume that McDonalds has extremely tight spaces just like your average supermarket. In which case I'll wager it's because they don't want their doors stoving in when some idiot returns and tries to get into their car.
jfish1936
A supermarket had a narrow lane leading into its carpark. Large conspicuous notice at drivers' eye level read"No parking in lane", and the ground was painted in stripes, a keep-off signal in Oz. Several cars parked in the lane, because it was near to the door. Flyers advertising adult literacy classes were printed and STUCK on the windscreens. Parking in the lane became much less common. Something that struck us on our visits to UK: Estate planners seem to feel that if two small cars can squeeze past each other, they've made the road six inches too wide! Seriously, one need for a big car is having more than 3 children; over here, the "forby" can be the cheapest solution. Also remeber that if you need a big car one day a week, or even fortnight, keeping a second small car can be expensive. I advocated a "dual registration", with lockable detachable number plates and a tax disc for each of two cars; put the plates on the monster and head for the wilderness on the weekend, swap them to the littley and drive it into town on Monday. You can't use both cars at once, and the registration/insurance would be at the rate for the more expensive. But why pay two lots when only one car is on the road at a time? Grandad.Malky
I park slap bang in the middle of two spaces - if the carpark isn't busy and the car next to me has child seats in, and there are no parent and child spaces in that carpark I do it out of consideration for somebody trying to wrestle a wriggling child into place whilst being obstructed by their own car door I certainly wouldn't do it when a place was busy! What happens when the other car as gone and leaves your car taking up two spaces for no apparent reason. Going back to the Smart car, it’s a work of art trying to get out of a small sports car in a tight parking space unless you are double-jointed; maybe they needed the door fully open so they can be shoehorned in / out. People who see it will form an opinion of the driver. And the opinions would be correct.

Australia has actually built roads that cars can fit on, this country isnt as clever! Also, I can imagine that the school run in Australia can sometimes be 30 miles, whereas here it is more like 30 yards. I'd like to see school runs banned or at least moved to a different time so that people who work miles from where they live dont have to put up with these muppets blocking the roads

Recon 4x4 owners should have the own license as they new breed of 4x4 are as wide and large as many goods vehicles.
purdyamos
I think it's terrible that people don't park in allocated parking spaces. What's the world coming to? You'd never catch me 'inventing' parking spaces. Would you Vanessa? And why would you need to when there's all that lovely empty space on the tramlines?
