duckweed Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Saw on BBC that Sheffield is one of the worst place for fly tipping. Why not condoning such anti social and dangerous behaviour I can understand why. We've been upgrading furniture etc.. and as its not fit to be recycled we wanted to take it to the centre. I know they will collect but that means you have to live with your rubbish piled outside your house for several days. But taking to the collection centre has become a nightmare as we have to phone, leave details and then wait for them to phone back to check we are where we say we are and then after several questions book a time to take it. In past times we just loaded up and took it, sorted it into the right skips and that was that. Why does it have to be so complicated?
teddie Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Read the dog poo thread and dispose of it like that, there will be bits of furniture hanging from trees all over sheffield, but it won't stink, so every cloud has a silver lining
bazjea Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Is this because you have large pieces of furniture to dump? Because I have been to Herries Rd in the last month and had no problem putting stuff in the skips. Ie Garden Rubbish,Car battery, some old wardrobe parts and wood drawers
lee79 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 If your taking a van you have to book it in. I think it's to make sure your not dumping as a business. I did not know about this, a couple of times I hired a van to get rid of bulk rubbish, with no problem, so when I went again after some time I found this out from the guy at the site. So I was turned away, had to go back, and book myself in. The thing is, we know how stupid these people are, but they expected me to reverse, somehow into queing traffic. I explained to them how much easier it would be for them to let me in, so that I could drive round the site and out of the exit. I promised I would not stop.
mgblade Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 try going in a van, went last year with a load of glass from my mothers old greenhouse. had a little corsa type van then, my god 20 questions and a look into the back before i could dump it. felt like i was trying to get rid of a body!!! lol
Mathom Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Stick your stuff on Freecycle because people want all kinds of mad stuff - nasty old carpet is snapped up by allotment owners for example, it's good for keeping weeds down. Someone was even after some old willow branches the other day.
duckweed Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 We do have a van as we have an adapted vehicle to take my wheelchair. We've been coming there for several years from time to time so they must recognise us by now. Maybe I should argue it under the disabillity discrimination act. It's quite obvious it is a converted vehicle.
