mmkq Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Sheffield Humanist Society continues a long tradition of organised freethought in this area of Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. Humanists care about social and moral issues from a non-religious (atheist, agnostic, secular) perspective. We reject the supernatural, believing that humanity must find its own solutions to the problems of life. Sheffield Humanist Society was founded in 1993, resuscitating a tradition of freethinking in the area, and has since become one of the largest and most active humanist groups in the country. We hold public meetings on the first Wednesday of every month (except August) to discuss topical issues with invited speakers. Why not come along to SADACCA on the Wicker at eight o’clock prompt and join in the discussion? (Tea, coffee and bar available) We supply information leaflets, briefings and speakers on social and moral issues, applying the rational thinking and human values which make up the Humanist outlook. We work and campaign locally to achieve a Humanist voice in society. We can provide trained and experienced funeral officiants to conduct non-religious funeral and baby-naming ceremonies. We run bookstalls at local festivals and events. The membership fee is very modest and members receive a newsletter several times a year.
