steev Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Anyone seen this before? Found it yesterday, the boss was tempted to go for an EeePC after killing his lappy keyboard but they're a bit on the skinny side specs-wise. Got it delivered this morning & I've been tinkering & installing stuff, it's absolutely fantastic! 80GB HD & 1GB RAM in something around eepc size, wifi & bluetooth, even a CF slot which apparently take 3g data cards, & has a 1024x768 res screen. The keyboard's even usable if you don't have huge fingers. It's sitting on my 17" laptop, & it takes up almost exactly 1/4 the space.
steev Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Not this one, but they have one for a bit more which does. This one DOES have mouse controls (thumb-stick to the left, 2 buttons to the right) on the screen half though, so when you flip the screen around like a tablet you can still play solitaire. RRP for this one is £600, it was ~£480 at ebuyer though. Can't remember RRP of the touchscreen one but it's not stocked. It's not mine, I'm just setting it up, but I would've wanted the touchscreen one too, kind of completes it... I'm more impressed the more I play with it
sallonoroff Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Not seen that particular machine, but have been interested in the Geode chip for a while. How is the "speed" of the machine? Not sure if i'd rather just have a couple of eeePCs for the money though. BTW, Anyone found the spec of THIS eeePC-competitor yet? edit: Yep, the Inq has specs... http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/20/elonex-100-laptop-specs-leaked .
steev Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Not seen that particular machine, but have been interested in the Geode chip for a while. How is the "speed" of the machine? That's what's impressed me most. Now installed with all the usual AV & security, usual officey gubbins etc, everything loads in around the time you'd expect for a bog-standard single-core cheapo PC. I wouldn't compare it to the basic EeePC, I'd compare it to the full-on version, with all the hacks that involve a soldering iron & a steady hand, & all the inconvenience that entails, including nLite'ing a copy of XP & shoe-horning it in. This already comes with XP Pro, no *cough*Norton*cough* dodgy "free" OEM software, already has bluetooth, & has 1GB RAM & 80GB HD. And separate CF & SD slots so you can (apparently) use a 3G data card in the CF slot & still read memory cards. If I didn't have a USB mouse to hand I'd be insane by now though...
