Sheffield Springs academy was opened officially this morning with red carpet down for parents & pupils to visit, it is massive, it is build triangular on 3 floors, everything is brand new including the PC's, they have a much bigger sports hall, 2 dance studios, a huge hall, every pupil will be provided with there own lockers, 56 cctv cameras installed randomly around the interior of the building.

They have also brought new punishments in to stop vandalism & disruption in the school, the parents will be fined upto £1,000 if their child sets the fire alarm off deliberately, parents will be billed for any damages or graffiti clean up their child causes

Heres hoping it isn't ruined.

While leaving the school we saw 2 traffic wardens issuing tickets to the cars parked along Hurlfield Road (I suppose they need to claw some of the money back from somewhere)

So whats your problem then, why are you pulling others down instead of wishing for them to do better, my cousien attended the opening today and said it was great, they have there own proper music recording studio and stuff.

Ignore some of the blatant snobbery that goes on in this forum. Unfortunately there is a postcode mentality on here and the thought of someone from a council estate being given the opportunity to improve their prospects and - god forbid, someone actually saying that they have improved their prospects will appall some of the S11 and beyond dwellers.

Snobbery and Inverted Snobbery is indeed rife on the forum. Both are as pathetic and small-minded as the other.

I drove past the new academy on Saturday, after leaving my Mum's house, on Arbourthorne Road, where I grew up, and attended the old Myrtle Springs School.

A school which gave me a decent education and allowed me to get a well paid job, a big house (with a very small mortgage), 2 cars and savings in the bank...and I'm not even near 30 yet. I'm not a snob, but I'm extremely proud of the things I've achieved.

It doesn't matter where a school is, or how well off the pupils are, it's all down to the attitude of the pupils and whether or not they choose to take the education that is being offered to them.

I would hope that the new academy will bring a wealth of options to kids of all backgrounds.

Good luck to them I say.
