Is eating out ever worth the money?

You're average bill will be about £30 per person. Apart from the snob value, for those on average wages- that's the equivalent of half a dozen or more CDs. Is a restaurant meal really that much more enjoyable that a decent pub meal? I mean grub is grub isn't it at the end of the day.

30 quid is a reasonably priced meal.

i prefer them cheaper but i think eating out is always worth it.

once a month or so just to go out to a restaurant have a couple of drinks and eat nice food you dont have to prepare or clean up in a nice atmosphere is a really nice experience.

i went out and got an italian meal for 2 with starters and drinks for 23 quid at the weekend. got me in the good books with the other half as well !!

I eat out quite alot, maybe too much! Went to That Moroccan place Friday, Zeugma Saturday, Milestone for breakfast Sunday and the Stag for Sunday lunch... Lunch on Suunday costs a tenner with a drink, quite a few places you can take your own wine which keeps the cost down, eg Zuegma. The Moroccan place was the most expensive meal and it was nice but not worth £25 each in my opinion but it was a nice evening out with someone I had not seen in a while so I well worth it. I guess it's down to priorities and cash flow!

£30 per person on average wage, anything more is snobbery...

£30 per person to me is proper snobbery, I can feed both me an my partner with a proper well valued meal for £40 is somewhere like TGI's. Most of the time we eat out for around £20 for the both of us though including drinks and 9/10 can't knock it.

You are obviously a snob and trying to get away with getting snob meals on the cheap, tightass :hihi::hihi:

If you add up the cost of the ingredients, the staff wages and the business overheads, eating out is ludicrously overpriced. Yet people are still fooled by the perception that the more something costs, the better quality it is; you only have to look at the success of Thyme to work that out!

We eat out a fair bit and rarely spend 30 quid a person. Is it "worth the money?". Well, probably not in exact monetary terms, but on the other hand you get a decent meal without any of the associated faff, and a lot of places will do you good food at a more reasonable price.

Most independent restaurants are overpriced. They have ideas well above their stations, thats why the chains do so well. The food ususally tastes better and is cheaper- even if it is just warmed up in the kitchen

Whether it's worth the money depends on how valuable money is to you. It's extremely valuable to me, because I have hardly any of it - going out to a restaurant happens twice a year for us, plus whenever our parents pay the bill; there's no way on earth I'd pay £60 for a meal.

On the other hand, someone like J.P. MacManus could wipe his nose on £50 notes and not miss them, so he wouldn't blink twice at spending money in a restaurant.
