ELRiley Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Hello.... I'm a second year journalism student at the University of Sheffield... For an assessment, I have decided to put together a news package on the subject of failing Sheffield primary schools..they are 147th out of 150 local authorities in England. Now a strategy is being introduced to target individual students who are struggling. Does anyone know of a particularly good Sheffield primary school or, conversely, a failing one, who may be willing to talk to me? More importantly, I would really like to talk to a parent and their child - perhaps the child is struggling and the parent doesn't feel they're getting sufficient support. Or perhaps, the student is particularly gifted. ANY help would be much appreciated!! Thanky you...
ELRiley Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 The Star must have misinformed me, apologies.
Dizzyblonde Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I think you would just need to ring around. Its difficult really to make a judgement on what is a good school. From a parent's perspective 1. you dont get much of choice where you send your child, unless you are rich enough to be able to afford the big family house before you get caught. 2. a good school for a child is where they feel happy and feel they can answer questions and have these answered, which is different from how many children have passed x or y tests against the national average.
ELRiley Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Thank you for your help! All that you say is very true. Are you a parent? Does you child attend a primary school? I think ringing around is the answer, I shall call a few schools...it will be speaking to a parent and child that might prove difficult... Thanks again! If you are a parent with a child at primary school, you could really help me even more!
laurajill Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I work in a school that was an underachieving school when I first came here and then 5 years later where in the top five percent of the country. I know Totley Primary schools in special measures. You should really look for schools in special measures. I know OFSTEAD are still going round sheffield schools so you may have difficulty finding a school who will give you the time.
barmyowls Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 dont you just love labour party for this great thing 147th out of 150:hihi:
DIVA Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I'm trying for the life of me to think where I recently saw some hype about how well Sheffield's schools were doing.
