Is £10 too much for the Tram?

As you may know, Megarider tickets went up recently to £10.

At £8.50 (which they use to be) I thought they were great value. It just seems that £10 is a bit much these days. Okay, it might be cheaper than a bus pass, but how come the prices keep going up? The Supertram doesn't run on petrol, so why the increase?

well look at First's Weekly Saver, £15 / week..

the only reason I can think of for the increse, is trams run on electricity, maybe the electricity bill has gone up.. ;)

Ah but the electricity used to power the tram is generated by 3,000 hamsters running in wheels under the supertram depot 24 hours a day. They've recently formed the National Union of Hamsters Generating Electricity and have demanded a 5% pay rise, improved working conditions and every other weekend off. Stagecoach have to find the money to fund the increased labour costs from somewhere!

Not only does the electricity bill go up, but so do wages for the staff every year.

yeah, fair enough. Just seemed a bit harsh when they hit the £10 mark. Makes the car seem so much more viable now.

Oh yes. The dreadful car. Long may it sit in it's garage. For god's sake. I've got a car, I like my car. I'm going to drive my bloody car up someone's backside soon if I keep being made to feel like a pariah.

This is exactly the kind of short sighted attitude that's not only killing our planet but making much of our country dangerous to children and wildlife alike.

Are you one of those elitist people who avoid public transport because you don't like mixing with poor people?

Are you one of those people who thinks people like me can run a business by delivering our goods on roller skates?

There's always a way round it, and you may have no choice when the oil runs out.

Anyway, what's your business got to do with the price of tram tickets? If you're going to start ranting at least stay on topic!

Anyway, back to the OP's point; a £10 weekly pass works out at £1.43 a day; hardly breaking the bank, is it?

Are you one of those people who judges what you can afford as the benchmark for everyone else. Some people will find it a struggle to lay out £1.43 a day! I'm guessing you are in a nice little steady job, earning a nice steady wage and pootling about on your bike at weekends to make you feel all environmentally warm inside?
