on the subject of cross breeds and the creation of new breeds (and being sensible about why we'd breed new dog breeds), what would be your ideal dog, and how would you go about creating it?

for instance, Willman has suggested that crossing something small with a rottweiler would make a good house pet

what dog would you create and how?

tbh - i don't need to look any further than the Cocker Spaniel. love of my life and ticks all the boxes that i need.

(i could do with one that doesn't need grooming, walking or feeding but i can get one from Woolworths toy section that does that.)

I think I just need to find something to cross a beagle with to make it more trainable - maybe a springer spaniel?

that keeps the dangly ears, the easy clean coat, the size.....

... maybe I should just have bought a springer?

well I'll always love my dobe, the ultimate mix of breeds - but if size is an issue it would have to be a 'mini dobe' and the manchester terrier looks most like a mini dobe so doberman/manchester terrier x. That way I'd still have the dramaqueen but in a more manageable size- and maybe I'd get a bigger share of the bed and the sofa!

I'd love a Molly moo who doesn't shed so much hair and doesn't bark so much, so maybe she needs to be crossed with a standard poodle for the hair and with a Basenji for the barking.

It would also be lovely to have one who doesn't limp because a previous owner broke her leg and didn't take her to the vets, but that would involve doing something to her previous owner- like maybe introducing him to the business end of a combine harvester- rather than her.

I've no problems handling the full sized thing - but having more space on the sofa would be useful...I'd miss her big bony elbows and the warm chin on my lap though...and her feline buddy Alfie would too.
