Wodoish!!! Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I've just started playing COD4 online for PC and every few minutes or so on nearly all servers, it say's "connection interupted" while the screen jumps around a bit and my character wobbles about until after about 10-15 seconds when it resumes. (By which time i'm normally been shot as i've been a sitting duck for even the poorest of noobs) This is extremely annoying and is taking the enjoyment out of the game. I used to be a regular player of Counter Strike Source and never had this problem before, so I don't think it's my internet connection. Does anyone know if this is problem with the game or main server which will be patched? Or is it just that COD4 is very demanding of a good net connection?
ASPGuru Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 What kind of ping times are you getting to the server hosting your game? I only see this when my son chooses a high ping server because he insists on selecting one based on the maps in play rather than network latency. I think the net usage is fairly low - I have no issues with three PCs sharing a connection when two are playing COD4.
Wodoish!!! Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Out of just over 1200 servers, I have just been on the one with the lowest ping (46), and within 2 minutes of playing the same connection problem has interrupted the game as usual. When this happens, and I press 'Tab' to look at the player list, it says everyones ping is 999
punk Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Which ISP are you with and which router do you have?
Wodoish!!! Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Tiscali 2meg, and my router is a belkin
ASPGuru Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I believe a lot of those 'servers' are not actually real servers, but games hosted on people's home PCs. As such, you are subject to the vagaries of whatever spec hardware they use, plus limitations on their internet connections. It is surprising how many people think that their internet connection speed applies both ways - for example even on Virgin Media's 20Mb offering the upload speed is still a lowly 384Kb. Can easily be maxed out if they have not configured their 'server' properly. I tend to avoid those 'servers' that have the higher number of slots - maybe use those that allow say just 30 max players. Less if possible. If I can identify a server that is a pukka server then I might throw that rule out of the window.
