Haydn1971
Same old story, you get what you pay for and the real talent is bound to go into private sector and so the council will have second rate people. The worst bit of working for "local government" is having to deal with idiots who think all council staff are stupid - If you want to carry this "discussion" on, I'll happily do so after an apology to all my hard working co-workers... Just to clarify, I work for my own company, supplying services to private and public sector clients - I get more of a buzz from working for local government clients, because I'm actually building something useful for the community at large and not just filling a developers pockets... Darbees
What you don't understand is that a workforce will only work what it wants - whenever I've had afterhours work to do, I've had to beg, bribe and blackmail to get the "right" people for the job - Don't forget also that you need the supply chain to work - many depots and plants only work 7am to 7pm at most.If these were regular jobs parts of supply chain would be open all the time as a matter of course, supply and demand same as everything else. My personal answer to this would be no - why should I work through the night, sleep through the day, lose my social life, eat at odd hours and probably lose my other half because of arguements - just because you think it's a good idea - if I was forced into it, I'd move to another job - just as probably 95% of other people would...No one is suggesting that you or anyone else is forced to work nights but millions do, nurses, doctors, aircrew, power workers, miners, various industrial factory workers, police, lorry drivers, it goes on and on and plenty do it full time without any problems. If you wish to do it, I can put you in touch with the appropriate folks - I'm sure they would love to have someone onboard that would willing work nights for the rest of the working career... ......To suggest millions work permenant nights is nonsence... a select few do night perm, the vast majority who work night do so in shifts... That's an exageration, I didn't say anyone should do it forever but I don't want to do because I have a job, I have worked nights on occasions though.
