.exe file wont execute?!

Recommended Posts

Just tried to install a program on a PC but the setup.exe is ignoring me? What could cause this? Tried auto run on the cd but with the same result!?

It will work on another PC :gag:

What OS are you using? Is your Anti Virus stopping you from running it?

try to copy the contents of the CD to a folder on your harddrive using dos and run from there: (where d: is drive letter of your CD)

Start->run->type cmd in box press enter, then in cmd window

d: (press enter)

copy *.* c:\tmpcd (press enter)

cd \tmpcd (press enter)

setup (press enter)

Are both PCs running XP?

What exactly is the program and version that you're tring to instal? Just wondering if it's worth trying to run the setup.exe in Win2K-compatibility mode...

Is it actually a program? Is it's type even "application" or "program"?

Like I&M says, what is it you're trying to install?

I'm trying to install the software on a cd that came with a mobile phone (Nokia N95). Still can't get it to work!?

Hmm... I have the N95 CD stuff installed on this PC, no problems  Presumably you just double-click the icon from Explorer, and you see no messages at all...? If so, might be worth opening a cmd box and running it from there. Also, what about D2J's question about antivirus?

Not the Virus scanner, this program runs on a pc with the same os and virus software so it's not the cd either.

I've checked the .exe file association is correct also.

When I look in task manager the setup.exe is running but nothing happens, I click it again and another setup.exe appears in task manager but still nothing.

Weird... Have you tried running Ccleaner to clear out all your temporary files? It's possible that setup.exe needs to use it and might get upset about an already-existing file in temp...
