Incapability Brown? Lost without Blair? Is Gordon on borrowed time?

Recommended Posts

Cloudy Bay & Tricky plus Everyone else - Have a look at Gordon Brown academic achievements prior to taking any interest in politics.

Personally, I wish that I was Half as clever as he is and I wish a lot more were.

Especially those who throw insults to people with dis-abilities how ever caused.

.

Clever is as clever does Albert. To define the word 'clever' in the context you refer to, and to avoid using pejorative terminology due to your subject matter, would be difficult indeed. However, regardless as to Mr Brown's doctoral thesis on James Maxton (a 20th century socialist politician that few have ever heard of )

and his 'O' level in incongruence, your definition of 'clever' suggest to me that your thinking is deeply flawed.

Gordon is undoubtedly academic..........but that's all it makes him. To confuse academia with 'cleverness' is about as ridiculous as trying to equate poverty with stupidity.

And so we all MUST be better off to pay the tax.

I think Blair and Brown learned about the use of tax bracket creep from our appalling Paul Keating!

A bizarre comparison. To achieve academically, including to the point of constructing a successful doctoral thesis, demands a certain degree of intellect.

Brown is undoubtedly shrewd and very clever indeed. He has proved himself to be an astute political actor and a canny powerhouse in the highest pinnacles of political power for the last ten years.

However, and to a cringeworthy degree, he lacks the ability to hold himself in public or to cast a postive and convincing image of himself or what he stands for. Don't get me wrong, I've seen him speak and in a comfortable context, rally or conference, he is an excellent speaker. Ask him to perform in front of cameras, shake hands with a football team, appear on a TV chatshow or similar and he just comes across like a bumbling and false idiot - which he most definitely isn't.

Quite Albert, becasue Gordy sold the country's gold reserves off several years ago....when gold was at it's cheapest. A true lesson in economic incompetence.

Brown is an idiot. Being a fantastic academic is no guarantee of a lack of idiocy at all - as many that work in a university can no doubt testify to.

Take for example his overly complex tax and tax credit rules. He actually thinks that each little tweak he produces will have the effect that he wants it to, and can't understand why, having pulled a lever, nothing happens (or something else, unintended, happens). This is because he does not understand how the real world works.

The man is a complete and utter fool - clever to be sure, but dumb.

The only really clever thing he ever did was pretend Iraq was nothing to do with him, when clearly it was, he could have stopped Blair easily by not finding the cash for it.

And do you or anyone else honestly believe that Iraq would have fired only duds through the big gun which we made for them?

Or do you think Iraq could have used it to threaten to fire biological shells or nuclear ones?

One question not answered is:- Why with such a country with peaceful intentions did Iraq require such a weapon?

I nearly cried when I first heard this. What is there to say?

I think posterity is going to have a VERY different view of Gordon's Chancellorship than we did at the time. I suspect 'Incapability Brown' will indeed be his future epitaph.

Albert - we armed Saddam, so the very idea that he had a bunch of secret super weapons we didn't know about trained on us was a non starter from the beginning. As Bill Hicks once put it, all we ever had to do to see what weapons he had was to dig out the receipts.

I'm sorry, Albert, but the whole sorry story of the Iraq debacle was a smokescreen put together by the American and British governments to con their people into going along with an illegal War, which was fought with the intention of trying to control the Middle East. Saddam and WMD were complete red herrings - bogeys used to frighten the American and British populations - that is all.

Political leaders of every country in the world, every regime, LIE their faces off to achieve their political goals. This has always been the case - it's just much more easy to catch them out at it nowadays.

The facts are as you state. The question I ask is the same.
