Noodle   10 #3 Posted November 19, 2007 Totally dippy! We had red setter and she was rubbish, also used to eat bees that put her in a trance... Very kind nature though. However, on a negative note, she did used to get seizures, I'm not sure if this a problem with all setters.
 Share this content via...

fuzzy   10 #5 Posted November 19, 2007 I've never known a red setter that has it's brain attached to the rest of it's body, especially it's feet.  Completley stupid dogs, but very lovable.
 Share this content via...
Glennis   15 #6 Posted November 20, 2007 Mine was completely batty, thick as mud and a real thief. he was also very friendly, soft and gentle.  he was very good off the lead, funnily enough and always came when called. They need a good run and freedom .. not a town / city dog.  The English and Gordon setter are much calmer in temperment ..
 Share this content via...

Mathom   10 #9 Posted November 23, 2007 I knew a family who had one and it was soft, both in temperament and in the head If he saw or smelled anything he'd be off after it and there was no stopping him. They adopted this boy who had learning difficulties and one day he took the dog out for a walk, but then the dog smelled a rabbit and was off - the poor lad didn't have sense to let go of the lead and let the dog drag him for ages! Chelle-82   10 #12 Posted March 12, 2015 They're mental!! A lot like a springer spaniel in it's energy and playfulness but a lot bigger. Hard work if you are not prepared to put in the time to exercise it and needs obedience training from a young age to stop it from being big, bouncy and uncontrollable.  Temperament wise they are adorable, loyal and always wear a smile.  I miss my benjy  ---------- Post added 12-03-2015 at 12:09 ----------  This thread is from 2007.  Oh yeah!!! just noticed..
