Death of Tom Siddall

Recommended Posts

I went to school with a Tom Siddall. Park Council School. Norwich St.Park.

He would have been born c1924. He lived in what we called "The Big Yard"

off Stafford St, Park. I was born in Duke St Park. If yu have any information about his history, I would be pleased to know. If I can be of any further assistance, contact me Albert Preston

My grandfather's name was Harry, married to Florence, they lived in the Duke St, Sheffield Park area.

He was born about 1896 and his brother and sisters named were, George,Arthur,Ann,Albert,Herbert and Walter.

I know there was a Tom Siddall in the family but don't know what relation he would be.

My ancestors were involved with a man called Chester William Siddall, born 1859 in Sheffield. I would love to hear from anyone who has Chester in their family tree.

Well i wasn't expecting so many replies after a year of non activity

Albert Preston

Im not sure when he was born, if it was '24 it fits into the right timeframe, he therefore had an elder brother named Walter (my granddad) who was born in 1916. He also had step-siblings who were Bullocks, Tom, Lizzie and Abe, plus another sister called Elsie. (Elsie moved to Crete I think) If your Tom is my great uncle then you may have heard the name Allet as well.

my great grandfather was also a Walter, maybe your grandfather was my grandfathers uncle? I know my great-grandfather married twice.

No mention so far of a Chester in my tree but if i find one I'll be in touch.

Paul

Sorry my granddad never had a pub. but thanks for the reply

I am not related but I would be interested if there proved to be a connection with Sergeant Major Joseph SIDDALL who is buried in a war grave in Walkley Cemetery.

Is the tree on Ancestry yours? With that and various indexes I summarised what you have told us as follows:

Walter Edmund SIDDALL bn 1892

married (1915) Edith ALLOTT (HALLOTT in GRO index)

burial of Edith (from SheffieldIndexers):

Siddall, Edith (Wife Of Walter E, age 25).

Died at 2 Smilter Lane; Buried on March 1, 1921 in Consecrated ground;

Grave Number 20020, Section B6 of City Road Cemetery, Sheffield.

(Joseph Henry ALLOTT, father of Edith and Millicent buried in same grave)

Walter then married (1924) Millicent Emma BULLOCK (nee ALLOTT), Edith’s sister

She was c16 years older than Edith, and had married John BULLOCK in 1904.

Three SIDDALL/ALLOTT children:

GRO Births DEC 1916

SIDDALL Walter (mother’s maiden name: ALLOTT)

Sheffield 9c 953

GRO Births MAR Qtr 1925

SIDDALL Thomas (mother’s maiden name: ALLOTT)

Sheffield 9c 912

GRO Births JUN Qtr 1929

SIDDALL Elsie (mother’s maiden name: ALLOTT)

Sheffield 9c 796

…so I think Tom and Walter were ‘half-brothers’

These births were very confusing until I relaized that Edith and Millicent were sisters.

You're welcome :)

If you go to the message board on the SheffieldIndexers site and post the City Road information I quoted, Tony will probably be able to tell you if there is a gravestone (and if there is, he probably has a photo).
