I like insects, I like dogs, but I hate the yobs (I respect deer and foxes more)....so shooting them should be allowed????

foxes may not be a pest to you, or me, but to a farmer who losese chickens i can see why. same with deers, they damamge the trees by stripping the bark, so you and i may not see them as a pest. i also dislike grey squirrels, which may be cute, but is basicly a rat with a bushy tale, and if they get in your roof they cause havock. They also killed the red ones!

But this thread is about killing them because they cross the road without looking for Christ's sake.

You know, a bit like the sheep in Derbyshire (which we all somehow avoid), but the secret is surely to slow down, look out, and drive carefully. Little kids run into the road, do we shoot them?

People steal chickens (and more) for profit, people damage nature for fun, people drove the wolf to extinction, people introduced the grey squirrel, and yobs ruin property. Just can't see why it's OK to kill something because it 'annoys' us humans.

If however it's to protect us against danger, or for the sake of the animal then that's different.

the reason for controlling the deer is not just to do with it 'annoying' humans. Since they have few natural predators left (thanks to us) they overbreed and drastically alter the environment they live in by eating all the greenery. The probably starve at that point and make a mess by dying all over the place.

And sheep aren't renowned for leeping out of forests straight infront of your car, more for ambling towards the road from a bit of grass or moorland where they are clearly visible.

A pest (in the environmental sense) is an organism that breeds rapidly with no natural checks on it's population and damages something, be that other wildlife, crops, property or whatever.

So why pick on deer, foxes, etc. when there are humans left roaming around causing billions of times more damage to everything and anything?

And no,...I don't have 'blind' respect for all humans, but I DO have blind respect for all wildlife.

where's that smiley, oh there it is. :loopy:

Sorry Cyclone, but if you think that having more respect for wildlife than for some of the thieving, vandalising lowlifes with whom we HAVE to share this planet is loopy, then I think that smiley applies to you more than me!

Or maybe you'd care to explain why what I wrote is loopy.

I personally have no real adverse problem with fox hunting, but as for stag hunting - the idea of shooting something the size of a hatchback car with a sniper rifle doesn't seem like much of a sport to me. :suspect:

It's all a little too macho - maybe for inadequates?

IMO, anybody who derives 'fun' and 'enjoyment' from killing any animal, no matter how it is done, has more than a few inadequacies. Okay, sometimes it is necessary, for whatever reason,........ but to enjoy it?.......Now that IS sick!:shakes:

I agree with you. People who make out that fox-hunting is ok because it controls pests are clearly telling lies. The Hunts actually encourage breeding to produce more foxes to hunt.

If a wild foxes or deer do need to be controlled, then I would still object to people making the pest-control a fun day out, and teaching their kids that it is a grand thing to go out killing animals. In my opinion, people who derive pleasure from killing are sadists.
