So were the Native Americans, but that did'nt stop them! I know, I know, but I could'nt resist a pop at our friends the Yanks. Yes I know the British Empire as done more than it's fair share.............................................................................
Guest poppins Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Originally posted by Modesty Well said, but I take any post by Poppins with a pinch of salt. I still think it's someone from Sheffield ( UK ) taking the piddle. You must be quite a sad lonely person Modesty, but things will get better for you, so don't worry.
Skatiechik Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 I am tempted to start up a new thread Cow Hunting, for or against ?
wibbles Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 They're not exactly hard to find. Cows aren't renowned for their ground speed either...although I do find the idea of shooting a cow with one of them old fashioned trumpet shaped guns very appealing.

My appologies Poppins I seem to have wound you up again. I just don't get it though, if you really are from the US why do you come on a British, South Yorkshire chat forum and ask what we think about shooting deer that wander across roads. It as no relevance, anyway sorry to be a smart arse.
timo Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Modesty, behind the innocent-sounding name of "Poppins", the character is most probably one of those Mountain Men [of the Appalachians], depicted in the film, Deliverance infamous for the "Squeel like a pig, boy! Weeeeee!" scene. I can just imagine "Poppins" cocking the barrell of a gun and saying, "You sure done got a purty mouth, boy. I want you to do some prayin' for me..."

You'r all so far from the truth, it's laughable, i'm realy enjoying your guesses, please keep it up.
thenewborn Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 i actually would have agreed, but to tell you the truth i dont disagree anymore. They damage trees and are a pest. I dont see a problem with them being shot to keep the numbers down (and no i am not a usual hunt supporter). I do like the idea that they may introduce wolves back to the UK to keep the population down. It would be fine because tehy are originally indigineous to the UK anyway and arent a threat to humans really. But until then i dont se a problem with keeping the numbers down within reason. Same with foxes, i dispise the hunting methods of fox hunting but when it is done with a gun at night i see no problem as they are a pest
saxon51 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Originally posted by thenewborn Same with foxes, i dispise the hunting methods of fox hunting but when it is done with a gun at night i see no problem as they are a pest We all have our own ideas of what a pest is. To me, pests are things like wasps who've become wound up, next door's dog, and the teenage yobs who 'annoy' and 'destroy'. I like insects, I like dogs, but I hate the yobs (I respect deer and foxes more)....so shooting them should be allowed????
