Old bus routes of Sheffield- information needed

88 used to go up to Roscoe Bank from Fulwood Village. In 1983, bored one evening, a pal and I travelled up to Roscoe Bank and walked home (to Fulwood) via Loxley. I think fayres were still 2p each (although they might have gone up to a whopping 5p!).

 

60 used to go from Barncliffe Road (though the destination sign on the bus said Crimicar Lane) to the bus station. Only the other day, enjoying an early pint outside Sheffield Tap I commented that the bus stop for the number 60 was right outside the new pub at the railway station. I used to travel to town on the 60 and get off in Barker's Pool. I used to get off the 88 at Arundel Gate.

No4 used to run from Firth Park, up Bellhouse Raod past Hinde House School then god know after that. That was in the late 60s when I was at school.

I seem to remember around 1989-ish in the Halfway area there were the following SYT services in operation:

 

770 - Works or school service Halfway area?

 

M55 - Halfway to Crystal Peaks via Mosborough?

 

M56 - Killamarsh to Crystal Peaks?

 

M64 - Killamarsh area early 1990's?

 

The 'M' routes above were usually Little Nippers but occasionaly you would see single deckers in operation.

 

Can anyone fill me in with more details on the above routes please?

I was a bus enthusiast back in the early 1950s, when the Nether Green school bus was an old Crossley attempting to get up Coldwell lane in the snow...lol!

It was an interesting time when we had beautiful Corporation royal blue lining and cream base.

I knew EVERY bus route but I may have forgotten some....

Here goes... (97% started in "City", which could be a variety of terminus areas such as Leopold Street, Midland Station, etc.

 

59 Don't Know

60 Fulwood

 

 

(a few more in the hundreds...but escaping me)

 

(There were several workmen buses from Firth Brown's, etc. with numbers I can't remember now.)
