Grandad.Malky   11 #37 Posted November 8, 2007 yep i researched it for a quite a while. fortunately the newer models aren't suspect to gasket problems. Carcraft actually pressure tested it before purchase. it will be ahving the timing belt changed as a matter of course at which point i'll get my mechanic to investigate if the gasket needs replacing (if he can?).  I considered an mg but was but of by all the negative reports so played it safe and went for a MX5.
 Share this content via...
willman   10 #38 Posted November 8, 2007 If your first post wasn't in defense of Carcraft I never saw a more genial attack. So you take simple statements of fact as personal insults - time for some serious self examination.  P.S. textspeak is not required on S.F.  i haven't used textspeak i used a legitimate keyboard function as in @hotmail. i would recommend Carcraft to anyone - but i'm not defending their alleged bad practices. i'm not unwary or needing a bank loan, so your blanket statement is not fact - it is your opinion.  i have no intention to continue to "debating" the issue any further, so feel free to continue as you please with your baiting, trolling and insults. But she who must be obeyed always wanted an MGTF so we stuck with that choice.
 Share this content via...

You do know what they say about those who accuse people of 'trolling' when they are merely defending themselves and/or a position. It is a FACT that CARCRAFT prey on the UNWARY and THOSE who HAVE to use Carcraft because they can't get a BANK LOAN. Why that would cause you any grief I sincerely do not know - unless it's just that I was imagining that you were, to say the least, 'severe' towards me in the previous run ins I have had with you. But you're probably aware of them already.
 Share this content via...

waldershelf   10 #47 Posted January 23, 2008 It's got a lot of competition now.  The Car People next door seem to be much better, no high pressure sales, no pushing finance and the prices seem much more reasonable. And when I came out of the place I didn't feel like a bath from all the oiliness of the sales people like at Carcraft. I didn't buy a car from either as it turned out. CaptainChaos   10 #48 Posted January 23, 2008 Well I can update my Carcraft experience now.  On december 9 we took delivery of a focus ST from carcrafty, what persuaded me to buy was the fact that they knocked £3000 off it and according to the trade price guide was only just above bottom book. However the good stuff ends there. We planned on trading in the old car and were told it would only fetch £1800, and there and then they quoted a settlement figure, I decided to sell the golf privately and hence had a settlement quote posted to me, what a surprise to find out it was £600 less then the one quoted by the salesman.  The deal went ahead and we got good rate finance, put in place elsewhere, and then the fun really started. Arriving to collect we had to endure a 1.5 hour hard sell, covering a warranty, sickness/unemployment insurance, gap insurance etc etc and basically told the sales girl to stuff the lot. At the end of the day. still relatively happy we lefy with a car which came to us at almost bottom book.  We'd had it a week, then one night I had a blowout, fair enough it can happen anywhere, I phoned the RAC to change the wheel and waited. As the patrolman arrived he took one look and said' if you bought that from carcraft it will be a miracle if you have the key for the locking wheelnuts'. and guess what .... he was bloody well right.  I rang carcraft and to say they were unhelpful is an understatement. No-one prepared to wait and accept delivery of car on recovery truck, no-one prepared to drive out with locking wheel nut key, in short I had to have the car recovered twice, once to get me home, and once to get the car to them. Then the fun really started.  Any service/warranty work has to be booked through the call centre, who are it has to be said are about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Evebtually after getting rather irate and pointing out that the much lauded 120 point check could not have been done without the wheels being removed they capitulated and replaced the knackered wheel, tyre and nuts for free. (Total cost incl wheel I would say close to £1000.  Of course you then start looking at everything else and find that the thatcham alarm cert is missing, the dvd control unit is missing, the headphones are missing, another trip in from mr angry results in all this stuff being provided FOC, all it cost me is three trips to source to get it ordered. Total cost to them about £150.  It sems if you bang the table hard enough and have the skills to tie the blather artists in knots, you can get what you need, but should it really have to be like that?  Would I deal with them again .... not at any price.  When you consider the only profit they had in my car was on the sale alone, and that was less than £200, I wondered how the hell they keep going. On one of my many trips I saw the sales sheet for the weekend, total cars sold about 70, assuming I am in the minority and most sign for all the add ons, they are minting it in. The actual car sale is their secondary business almost.
 Share this content via...
