matsalleh
The latest figures show waiting times have dropped. The time now is only calculated from seeing a consultant. I work at NGH, my work is entirely dependant on how many operations are carried out. I can assure you all that very few (comparatively) operations are being carried out at the moment, as has been the case for over 3 months. There are now more managers than beds in the NHS.There are more long term sick people in hospital beds, a lot of these people are elderly. There is nowhere to put them as many nursing homes are closing for various reasons. So at best the Govt figures are creative accounting, my view is they are a blatant lie. It can only get worse!

Is there still a waiting list to get on the official waiting list? More managers than beds etc you say. When I posted something about this earlier, there was an irate response from an NHS secretary to a consultant, saying you need them to arrange appointments. I think we need secretaries etc - I'm sure it's the wave after wave of back room admins that are soaking the NHS dry. You'd agree?
mitziwillow
I know someone who is having an hysterectomy in 7 weeks. To me that's pretty good for this day and age. People don't stay in hospital as long either. As far as I am aware she will be in 5 days, unlike a few years ago it would at least have been double that. When the Government says it will provide an extra 10,000 doctors or nurses it looks good on paper to the general public. The reality is that a hospital is a miniature self contained town, it needs extra staff or these doctors can not do a damn thing. The public only see doctors and nurses not the caterers, domestics, stores maintenance people and all the others who keep the hospital running. All we get is more work.
