Yorkshire politicians expenses

Recommended Posts

The most expensive MP in Britain is Shahid Malik of Dewsbury. Malik has claimed more than £185,000 in travel, housing, staff and other things funded by the British taxpayer.

Examples from Malik’s astronomical claim are £95,000 on staff wages and £21,266 on postage costs. The MP says that his higher costs stem from opening a new, and larger, constituency office and “regular” writing to constituents.

Are you getting value for money from your members of parliament?

Have a look here: Check your MPs expenses. Same old every year and yet people are willing to pay 10 times this amount for footballers who struggle to beat third rate teams.

Strange how it's the Socialists, the very opponents of wealth and privilege who abuse the system the most - what bloody hypocrites

How easily the people who put them in power are decieved

The difference is that football is a business, and has to be self funded, either by wealthy owners, or by the fans.

Fair comment. However, which part of the expenses do you think they shouldn't claim?

Perhaps there should be a cap on the amount of expenses they can claim, and operate within a budget, which is what everyone else has to do,

Err, there is a cap on the amount they can spend plus their expenses claims are open to public scrutiny unlike everyone else.

So J185,000 is justified, in your opinion?

If that was what my MP spent and I was happy that they were doing a good job, then yes, I'd say it was justified.

So are you, or others on here, happy with their MP?

You still haven't told us which part of an MP's expenses you're not happy about. The reports go into quite a lot of detail about where the money is spent so if you feel there are areas where they could cut back please identify them.
