Best Fish and Chips in Sheffield thread

Recommended Posts

I've found that if you defrost them before cooking they go soggy but cooking from frozen they retain their crispness. I must give your place a try when up there, you have some cracking reviews.

They haven't a clue down here, mostly using frozen chips for the holiday makers, unwilling to label the fish cod or haddock, just 'fish'. £6 is not unusual for 'fish' and chips. Rick Steins in Padstow wanted £9.50 for takeaway fish and chips ... to be honest I'd want him cooking it personally for that.

These days Rick Steins are all over the place as franchises

My standard cod & chips are £5.35. I recommend large cod and small chips (one scoop) £6.30. It's what I have on my day off lol. Eaten out the paper in the garden. Yum yum

Ordered Harry's Pizza on Wostenholm Road in Sharrow for the first time today online. They have really nice fish and chips. Also Devonshire Chippy on Devonshire Green is my all time favourite. And I went to one on Chesterfield Road joining London Road their chips was amazing forgot the name though :(

There is a chippy near where London Road and Chesterfield Road join... Called Ocean.

I've been there 3 or 4 times and wholly unimpressed. The chips are too big and pale / undercooked so they're claggy and tasteless in the centre.

Why did you go 3 or 4 times then? :loopy:

Not a huge fan of fish and chips but I know Betty's on Weststreet is always on point if I'm ever nearby.

Anyone know if Les is still on Longley Ave West?

It was a great chippy but not been up that way for a long time. I can't remember the name of the chippy, just the name of the bloke who ran/owned it.

Haha, valid question. I'd wanted to give them a second chance, and then had follow-up visits after pub sessions and long walks where I'm just after quantity regardless of quality.

In my year and the half in UK now, I tried the dozens of fishy.

And still, Poseidon on Abbey Ln. is my top choice.

Anyone know if Rob's has now closed and the reasons why? Always looked to do a good trade and reasonable prices?
