I don't want this to get heated and I don't want to be called a racist I just want to hear forum member’s opinions.

So please think about your answer if you are merely going to cry racism at me , coz racist I am not.

 

Is it me or does anyone else find it absolutely ridiculous when Sheffield born and bred Asians talk with that weird Ali G accent?

What’s it all about?

Fitting in with their peer group?

Or sounding like the voice of disaffected yoof?

I just can’t figure out why someone born in Sheffield would not have, and be proud to have a Sheffield / Yorkshire accent.

 

My personal opinion is that they make themselves sound like they have a lack of intelligence and want to promote their identity as a socially suppressed group.

But worse than that is the inane notion that these individuals have that we all want to listen to them chattering at the top of their voices ‘Ali G’ style.

 

I guess some of you may think I am bigot.

Not unless being a Sheffielder is a bigot.

I don’t care about the colour of peoples skin, their racial background, sexual orientation or disabilities, it doesn't figure in my train of thought of anything.

But surely it has to be said that people who live in a place and have so much disregard for belonging to that place that they ‘put on’ an accent are as guilty of bigotry as those that abhor them doing it.
