Not wanting to bring the debate down, but surely if somebody has chosen to live here they should adapt to our culture

 

Like English people do in Spain, with their English pubs, egg-and-chip restaurants and English speaking clubs/housing developments ?

Not wanting to bring the debate down, but surely if somebody has chosen to live here they should adapt to our culture, not vice versa, and immigrant doctors should only be used to fill vacancies unable to be filled by uk born doctors.

 

i'm not disputing that if there is a significant indiginous workforce available, jobs shouldn't be available to them. however if some silver spoon southerner doesn't want to take a job at a Glasgow Gorbals hospital, the job should be offered elsewhere, so the immigrant Dr is fulfilling a post not filled by a UK doctor.

 

as for culture adaption- i think thats irrelevant.if you were taken ill in Egypt on holiday for instance would you not appreciate an English speaking doctor?

or if you got a holiday home in Spain - most people would expect a level of service from their home country i would assume.

You are assuming that our own doctors are southeners who dont want to work north of the border, whereas the story is of doctors not getting the chance to get the job in the first place.

 

 

If i was taken ill abroard i would hope i got good treatment, regardless of the language spoken.

 

Until we have the situation where we are able to employ all who can work in this country, are able to adequately look after all who are ill, can house all our own in decent housing, can educate our own children to a decent level, then all immigration should stop.

That is completely bizarre.

 

Why the hell should we employ doctors from abroad when there are thousands of British doctors unable to find work? Absolute lunacy.

It wasnt an attempt to slur your name, simply pointing out that there is a fine line between my political beliefs, and yours, particularly on this subject of immigrant doctors, or do you disagree with my point that we should be looking after our own before we help others.
