SKIN Art Crawl This weekend

An event celebrating creative community of Shalesmoor, Kelham Island and Neepsend (SKIN) areasin Sheffield. Spanning across multiple venues in the area, the weekend presents open studios, gallery exhibitions, one-off art events, pop-up industrial bar stocked with locally produced ales, a curated trail between the different venues, blues bands, electronic musicians, factory tennis, fashion display & workshops exploring the local area. Some of the spaces will be opening their doors to the public for the first time.

Weekend Programme:

 

FRIDAY

 

PRISM 10 @ The Orchard Centre

One of Sheffield’s leading contemporary art events, utilising various venues across the city to exhibit work by emerging and established artists. 8PM, £2

SATURDAY

 

NICHOLS BUILDING

Usually an antiques, arts and crafts centre will serve as Headquarters / information point / all-day pop-up bar where visitors can sample local ales, get a hot drink, find out more information about the local area and enjoy a programme of events including open studios, an auction in aid of Breast cancer, urban catwalk, live bands and electronic musicians.

 

Evening music programme (6-11:30):

 

Hummingbird blues band

Mudcats

Stuart Ledger (Society Records)

 

Open Studios (12 – 5) & other events will be held at the following venues:

 

CADS

Former cutlery factory turned into multi-function art space, home to over 50 creatives, also hosting a variety of cultural events.

Works of up-and-coming residents in the warehouse gallery space and open studios around the complex.

 

BANK ST. ARTS

Bank Street Arts is a contemporary Arts Centre and artist’s studio complex,

3rd Sheffield International Artist’s Book Prize exhibition, open jewellery studios + ‘crafternoon’ at Juniper Café - a free knitting and crochet workshop for people with varried abilities

 

K.I.A.C.

Group of nine artists working across a variety of artistic disciplines.

The studios will be open to view and artists will be present to discuss their work.

 

Pebble-dash studios

Opening party of the new studios opened by CADS, presenting Show/Hide, a group show consisting of Sheffield Hallam final year Contemporary Fine Art & Graphic Design students & involving site-specific illustration work, silkscreen printing and 3D Installation holding to the intrinsic subject of and an ode to monochrome practice.

 

Point Blank Theatre/Riverside

Point Blank Theatre company develop and produce challenging new performance & allied arts projects, with a particular focus on emerging artists. The company own the Riverside Bar as a social enterprise with profits going back into arts projects.

Film footage of work and short performance presentations in the shoebox studio in the pub and possibly elsewhere in and around the building.

SUNDAY

 

End of the weekend afternoon electronic music session at Pebble-dash studios.

Kelham Island Museum presents works by Simon Wigglesworth-Baker at Kelham Island Museum

Work from the Kelham Island and Crucible Series inspired by the industrial landscape of the area and in particular the Bessemer Converter at Kelham Island Museum. The materials for most of this work has been reclaimed from the local industry within the area.
