dwaw50 10 #1 Posted November 28, 2017 Drink Wise, Age Well is mounting an inspiring and moving exhibition to support and celebrate Sheffield’s 50+ LGBT+ community. ‘Where are we now’ is opening at The APG Works on 1st December to coincide with World AIDS day and will run until 15th December. The work combines sound and images to document LGBT+ history whilst also addressing current day equality concerns by posing the fundamental question: Where are we now? Grace Weatherburn, Drink Wise, Age Well Project Worker and photographer for the project, says: “Sheffield’s vibrant 50+ LGBT+ community will be celebrated in a series of commissioned photographic portraits. The portraits will be accompanied by bespoke audio recordings and a new musical composition which aim to help recollect LGBT+ places and people from the past.” David Sharman, who developed the aural element of the piece alongside musical collaborator, Tom Sanderson, commented that: “This is of great significance as the exhibition features a song – ‘Lighthouse’ – which aims to recall and remember the LGBT+ people who are no longer with us.” The work is described as both ‘intriguing and explorative’ by Grace and David: “We met some fantastic people with some great stories”, they added. A taster-exhibition of five individual portraits, featuring Councillor Neale Gibson, LGBT Sheffield Chair: Kath Housley and drag artiste, Tia Anna, was displayed to great public acclaim at Pinknic Festival in the Peace Gardens earlier this year.
