rtbcomp   10 #13 Posted July 29, 2012 .... The smell I personally associate with copper is the one caused by overheating electrics, since it's always copper wire that carries electricity. However it isn't the copper itself that causes that smell. (I'm not sure exactly what it is - ozone?)  It's the insulation and plastic bits that you can smell.
