Runningman   142 #3 Posted October 20, 2016 Yes, I know the reason. No I can't say.  I'll be there though.  Good morning Andy1976. You can't say, if you did what would happen ?  Had a ride out to Friden on Wednesday. Lots of very big fields, I hope they are well drained ! Spoke to a group of walkers, apparently there is a pop concert held there each August, attended by hundreds.  I believe money ( Profit ) as usual is the problem. Charges for the Bakewell show ground excessive ? Are the Eroica organisers becoming greedy ? Was it just the problem of the show ground surface being damaged as it was this year. They have moved the venue, would have been nice to have been given a reason.
 Share this content via...

I understand the old venue was good, but the new one is going to make for a better festival. It's not a profit issue though. Friden is apparently far better in terms of it being a venue for such an event that's getting bigger year or year.  Only reason I don't want to say too much is that it's not really my place. I hear things because of friendships and I value them so don't want to overstep the mark Nothing sinister, I just really value being trusted. Runningman   142 #7 Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) The one at Bakewell was very expensive I heard and the rides are expensive to, I chose the York Rally which takes place on the same weekend it's much cheaper, and where the hells Friden  Hi Cycleracer ! Some questions for you. " The one at Bakewell was very expensive " I presume you are talking about the entry tickets ? I think myself the organisers were justified in what they charged because of what was on offer on the show ground.  " .... the rides are expensive too " Lot of work involved in providing feed stations, route signage, marshalls, first aid etc.  York Rally is dated and of course can't be compared with Eroica which is a specialised event.  Your comment " where the hells Friden " was flippant ! Beyond Monyash, you come to Parsley Hay on the Buxton to Ashbourne Rd. Turn left and at Newhaven take the left towards Matlock via Via Gellia. Friden is off to the left.  My comments, not wishing to start an argument ! However, I have not been to the bike fest so I will take your word for it but I know people that have and they say the same thing as me
 Share this content via...
Jon26 Â Â 10 #9 Posted November 26, 2016 I went to Eroica this year. I cycled in but didn't do the ride because my bike is not quite old enough. There was some good information but it was very very muddy. Â In the past I've been to the old York Rally many times and on reflection I'd say York was better. I've done the Ron Kitching / Phill Liggett rides from their. Â Having said that it really depends on the weather. If Eroica hadn't been muddy then it would have all been accessible. I plan to ride the 100 mile event, certainly don't fancy it in heavy rain. Bakewell this year was MUDDY, thankfully we were pre warned of ground conditions and almost everybody apart from the riders wore wellies. Jon26   10 #11 Posted November 27, 2016 I really enjoyed watching all the old bikes on the trail. I got some good go pro footage. Every now and again I'd see a bike similar one to one I used to have and think why didn't I keep them. Ones I remember Raleigh Royal (1982/3), Mercian, Bob Jackson, Holdsworth, Viscount Aerospace Sport, Raleigh Lenton.  My old Vernon Barker is 20 years old next year but looking at the current rules it won't meet the criteria in 2027 unless they allow clipless pedals and integrated brake/gear levers  I'm looking forward to going to watch it again this year. Runningman   142 #12 Posted November 27, 2016 Getting hold of and restoring a vintage bike can be an expensive business as I found out. Bought a Coventry Eagle for £120 and then spent a £180 on it. Had Q/R fitted on both wheels, new front and rear mech's, rear wheel re built, new inner and outer brake cables. Took me ages to strip the frame and then re spray. Lot of cash for a bike I rarely use, but riding the Eroica for me is a dream experience !!
 Share this content via...
