blake   10 #25 Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) somebody in Manchester or Coventry is going to use motorways a lot as soon as they pass their test.  somebody who lives on the end of the Llyn peninsula, in Penzance, or in the Scottish Highlands, isn't going to use motorways hardly at all.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motorways_in_the_United_Kingdom#/media/File:UK_motorways_map_2016.svg  there must be ONE particular spot in mainland Britain, that is furthest away from any section of motorway than any other. Don't know where it is, but it's somewhere in the very north of Scotland. Edited January 2, 2017 by blake
 Share this content via...
mad-dad   15 #26 Posted January 2, 2017 Doing a bit of 'entry from sliproad' lessons might be a good thing.  "See that bloody great gap the bloke in lane one has left in front of his car so that you can join safely?"  "Er, yes."  "Then put your soddin' foot down and get into it instead of slowing down so you're driving alongside him!! Or, you could even ease off and get into the equally large gap behind him!!"  "But isn't he supposed to move over into lane 2 and let me in?"  "No, you numpty!!!" barleycorn   10 #27 Posted January 2, 2017 Is inconvenience to the learner a suitable argument against increasing road safety through a more challenging test?  Yes, ask anyone who lives in Penzance. If you want compulsory motorway lessons and testing then make the test two tier with the second tier being compulsory for anyone wishing to use the motorway. alchresearch   207 #29 Posted June 4, 2018 Hopefully some of the good driving standards will rub off on those who drive poorly. At the weekend I passed four middle lane dawdlers and all of them were youngsters.
 Share this content via...
fatrajah   10 #30 Posted June 4, 2018 Learning how to join motorway traffic safely is one thing, but it's no preparation for using the hair-raisingly short slip roads on the A1.
 Share this content via...
