cancer   10 #13 Posted December 18, 2014 The opposition nowadays are a lot stronger and organised than they were during Charlton's, Greaves and even Lineker's days.  Exactly as you wrote Now the race is on the playing field. As Charlton played on the pitch slow jogging.
 Share this content via...

stpetre   12 #17 Posted May 31, 2017 It's not his fault that he's played at a time when there's been no real competition for his place. Greavesie got his 44 goals from 57 games. He was the best.  Brian Clough scored 257 goals in 274 appearances for Middlesbrough and Sunderland. Tho' most were in the old Second Division , not a bad haul and defenders didn't stand on ceremony in those days either.
 Share this content via...

stpetre   12 #19 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) Yes but how many England goals?  Yes that' really the point Jim, Cloughie only played twice for England (No goals) as there were others that were preferred, as in Bobby Smith (Spurs). Ironically both of them were born in Middlesbrough or the area. Edited July 28, 2017 by stpetre Spell
 Share this content via...

taxman   12 #21 Posted July 9, 2017 Well he's back at Everton, quote once a blue always a blue......ok yes.  Desperate times. He's never been loved at Man U, always a suspicion that his heart was elsewhere and apart from a couple of monumental seasons, his threats to go to City haven't exactly made him loved of the Old Trafford faithful.   He's been treading water for 4-5 years now. MAC33 Â Â 10 #23 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) 13 million pounds salary for a 31 year old that many fit blokes in their mid 40's could probably outrun in a long distance run. I'm 52 and can do around 13 minutes for 3kms at a push! Â To put his salary in perspective - most clubs in the SPL do not have that amount for their entire budget. Â Your average Joe in the UK is on say 15-20K a year. Â Rooney earns around 35 000 pounds a day - or twice as much as your average person does in a year. Â It's a very sick society.
