Ontarian1981 Â Â 10 #1 Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) The whole Country of Canada is in mourning today after news of the death of Gord Downie, songwriter and vocalist with Canada's favourite band the Tragically Hip. This guy was more than your everyday pop star, he was a strong proponent of promoting Canada's identity and for Aboriginal rights. He sacrificed international stardom, ( the band was outstanding musically) by writing songs with strong Canadian content.Even the Prime minister stopped business in Parliament to eulogize the man. Hockey games are all doing a minutes silence tonight, yes, the guy was that much loved over here. He died of brain cancer at age 53.
