Asbestos cement down pipe.

Recommended Posts

We have, what I believe is an old asbestos cement down pipe. About 5 meters high.

Will it be safe to breakup, double bag it and take it to tip? Will wear breathing mask while breaking up.

Make sure you have the correct mask. There is different ratings and of you get the wrong one you might as well not have bothered wearing is.

If you have to cut way it

Dont saw it, it creates more fine particles than snapping.

If it were my problem, I would be getting it down in one piece, wetting then wrapping the whole thing in polythene( you can get polythene dust sheets, for a couple of quid from the likes of b&m, screwfix etc)

Then snapping it neatly over a couple of bricks, not smashing it to smithereens. then bagging it as per the instructions.

That pdf is the hse website guide to DIY disposal.
