Weigh-man   10 #15 Posted July 19, 2018 It only went to two lanes to force the third lane off at Meadowhall - just my opinion not a genuine proveable or possibly even sensible reason.  It was 3 lanes originally and then it was reduced to 2 lanes when maximum HGV weights went from 38 tons to 44 tons. You could see the whole thing sloping towards the edges.  They then spent 2 years repairing and strengthening the whole thing but left it at 2 lanes after the works were finished, which always baffled me.  It only went back up to 3 lanes when they finished the managed motorway works last year.
