Protecting kids when using online gaming

He loves Skylanders? I've no idea what it is, but he plays them at his dads .

My 5 year old likes skylanders but its a aged 7!

I asked the other day regarding protecting son etc on Xbox live, but didn't really get an answer I wanted.
