Waldo   96 #1 Posted November 3, 2018 What do people think about the case of Asia Bibi, the Pakistani Christian, who recently had her conviction of blasphemy squashed, and so spared the death sentence?  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-46040515  The trial stems from an argument Asia Bibi, whose full name is Asia Noreen, had with a group of women in June 2009. They were harvesting fruit when a row broke out about a bucket of water. The women said that because she had used a cup, they could no longer touch it, as her faith had made it unclean.  Prosecutors alleged that in the row which followed, the women said Asia Bibi should convert to Islam and that she made three offensive comments about the Prophet Muhammad in response.  She was later beaten up at her home, during which her accusers say she confessed to blasphemy. She was arrested after a police investigation.  Now it seems the masses in Pakistan are protesting that she's been let off, and are causing trouble to such an extent that the authorities have caved in and are restricting Asia Bibi's movement, not allowing her to leave the country. mafya   246 #2 Posted November 3, 2018 Uneducated people being led by extremist religious leaders, Pakistan will never succeed whilst stuff like this goes on. The irony is that the Prophet himself (pbuh) was a very forgiving man and this kind of behaviour goes against the teachings of Islam. Thats a good point very well made.  The irony is that the Prophet himself (pbuh) was a very forgiving man and this kind of behaviour goes against the teachings of Islam.  That however is utterly hysterical. Mister M Â Â 1,625 #5 Posted November 3, 2018 It must be so frightening for her and her family. I hope Theresa May shows mercy and grants Bibi's husband's wishes that he and Asia can stay in Britain.
 Share this content via...

Her lawyer has already done one.
 Share this content via...

Waldo   96 #8 Posted November 3, 2018 Uneducated people being led by extremist religious leaders, Pakistan will never succeed whilst stuff like this goes on.  Indeedy.  It's a shame people are not more compassionate and tolerant of others who do not share their views. Sometimes people with hard religious views, believe they are absolutely in the right, and any other perspective is wrong. It's a trait which is by no means exclusive to any one religion of course, its more of a human nature thing.  Let's hope things improve for Pakistan, and rule of law and reason prevail over mob rule.
