In the 1911 Whites Directory there's no Shirehall Road listed but keeping in mind the directory was compiled in 1910 its a good bet the road in question wasn't actually finished until into 1911.

Hi Linda,

This is the only Philip Gibbs I could find in the Sheffield area.

1911 census - 2 Gladstone Place, Well Road, Heeley, Sheffield.

Phillip Gibbs, head, 31yrs, Cutler table knife, born Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Rose Ellen Gibbs, wife, 29yrs, born Sheffield.

PHILLIP Gibbs, son, 7yrs.

Mary Elizabeth Gibbs, 5yrs.

Frances Gibbs, 3yrs.

Rose Ellen Gibbs, 10yrs. All children born Sheffield.

Married 10 years. 4 children born alive, 4 still living.

In 1901, Phillip, Ellen Rose and dau Ellen Rose are living at 1 Artisan Place, Heeley, Sheff.

1939. 34 Heather Road, Sheffield.

Phillip Gibbs, D.O.B. 15 May 1903, Table knife cutler, married.

Mabel Gibbs, D.O.B. 20 Feb 1907, domestic duties, married.

Three entries closed.

Philip Gibbs married Mabel Dancer Sep Q 1925.

I could only find two Gibbs/Dancer births.

Philip Gibbs, Mar Q 1929.

Peter G. Gibbs, Dec Q 1938.

Hi Linda,

As indicated by Moirahyde, Philip Gibbs born 1903 turns up in the 1911 census at 2 Gladstone Place (see here) and at 34 Heather Road in the 1939 Register (also the 1937 directory). Directories from the 1960s and 1970s show a "P. Gibbs" at 226 Shirehall Road. A Philip Gibbs, born 15 May 1903, died in Sheffield in Jan-Mar 1979.

Dear Linda

Philip Gibbs was my uncle, he married one of my fathers sisters, Mabel. sadly they are now both dead.

They had two boys Philip and Graham. For many years they lived at Shiregreen. Philip Gibbs was a fireman but was badly injured during the blitz but continued to work for the fire service in administration. He was a keen motorcyclist.

Eric
