Panahar Nether Green

Recommended Posts

Closed a few weeks ago for refurb/relaunch which seems strange just ahead of Christmas. Anyone know what if anything will be in its place? Good curry including bring your own beer from across the road at the excellent Rising Sun.

It is going to be called Lavang.

Hopefully not the same ownership - as it was rubbish!

Went to this place once, so very average. Who creates a restaurant which is a combined Indian/ Pizzeria? Has so much potential in its location, there are very limited quality eating establishments around there (Rafters is very good, but really just for special occasions), the surrounding neighbourhoods are affluent and its bang opposite one of the best pubs in Sheffield..

The bar has been raised for the quality of Indian food in Sheffield now and if a place isn't consistently good then It won't stay open for very long. Surely if you want good pizza near here then you'd head to Proove at Broomhill...

I like Pizza and I like Curry, when I used to visit here I used to combine the two.

Before Panahar was there - there used to be a pizza takeaway (a really weird place... http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=716005). Panahar inherited the pizza oven.

Never had a pizza at Panahar , only one or two mediocre curries.

I believe it was owned by the same people who also have the Ranmoor Tandoori (also garbage - but seems to do well due to a captive market).

Lets hope it is new owners rather than a refurb/re-brand.

No reviews on here about Lavang then? We tried it recently. Mixed views really. Trying to be upmarket but quality of the food is a bit hit and miss. Some dishes were good, others were poor, especially in terms of value for money.

The most striking thing was, the menu wasn't easy to understand and the curry dishes were very, very dry. No sauce with them at all. I'm not a fan of little pieces of meat swimming in a universal gravy - a la Bangladeshi restaurant style - but this was the other extreme.

In fact, one of the curry dishes looked to us like it had started out life as a dry chicken tikka dish, then been turned into a curry to use it up. Certainly the menu did not mention that Chicken tikka meat was used in this particular dish, we expected normal chicken.

In terms of turning out food that isn't quite bad enough to complain about, but not good enough to want to return, they've got it absolutely spot on!
