iansheff   86 #1 Posted August 21, 2018 Just seen the breaking news that Norman Bettison had all charges against him dropped. Taken a long time to decide that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-45258766
 Share this content via...

maggidee   10 #3 Posted August 21, 2018 Good news let’s hope it goes for all the other charges against the Sheffield people involved ,for this to go on all these years at millions of pounds that could have been better spent on charities etc let’s hope this puts a end to one of the chapters or will it be another appeal. Let’s move on . Mr bettison hope you and your family have had a big weight of your shoulders and an now get on with your life without these allegations that have been cleared. The families have stuck at it, trying to get at the truth on behalf of their loved ones who died.  Bettison and co have not been exonerated or declared innocent; the CPS say they do not have enough evidence to go to court. That is very different, and also debatable.
 Share this content via...
geared   303 #6 Posted August 22, 2018 That is very different, and also debatable.  Two witnesses changed their story and one has died because it's dragged on so long.  CPS doesn't have much choice really, but he's always faced accusations of evidence tampering. gomgeg   10 #8 Posted August 22, 2018 The thing that shocked me about this is the 'SIR Norman Bettison'. That proves to me that they really are now giving the honours out with the cornflakes.
 Share this content via...

canaryback   10 #10 Posted August 24, 2018 Can't comment on whether or not false evidence was given or evidence tampered with but I believe the police were on a hiding to nothing. Several thousand Liverpool fans, most of whom had been drinking and many of them without tickets, were converging on the Leppings Lane gate. If the gates had not been opened the disaster would have occurred outside the ground and very likely would have been even worse. The cry from the families would then have been "Why didn't they open the gates?"
 Share this content via...
