Does anyone know where the name for this street came from?
My dad lived on Strand Street from 1932 to 1956 and there's no obvious reason for its name - he's always wondered why it came to be called Strand Street
We've tried the Local History section of the main library in town and whilst there is a book all about Sheffield street names, Strand Street does not appear -and neither does it appear on any of the Voters Rolls or Kellys Business Directories
Hopefully someone can give us some clues
Thanks

A few streets in the area were named after London streets,
Oxford and Burlington poss

Think there was a John Henry Gilmore Green living at No 10 in 1911 so could be on census

Yes - to quote Peter Harvey in his book Street Names of Sheffield, Oxford Street is "... one of a group of streets the names of which seem to have been copied from famous London street names. As well as Oxford Street there were Bond Street (now gone) and Burlington Street." Bond Street linked Oxford Street with Wentworth Street and ran parallel to Burlington Street.
