Sheffield Wednesday Autograph help.

Recommended Posts

I guess this would be the right sort of place for a little help with this one? I would be sincerely grateful if anyone can assist with identifying some of these squiggles for me.

I inherited a piece of furniture from an elderly relative a while back and whilst clearing the contents I stumbled across an autograph book of some kind which I believe relates to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

I have a vague idea of the main footballers from both clubs over the years however I don't have the level of knowledge required to identify them all.

One of which I interpret as David Ford? A quick google search shows Ford to have played for Wednesday in the mid to late 60's? Therefore I would hazard a guess that the majority if not all of these autographs relate to this era. One spanner in the works however is that one of the autographs bizarrely says Leicester City which throws a spanner in the works somewhat? Are all of the autographs even Sheffield Wednesday players?

Some of the others are

Tom McAnearney

Peter Johnson

David Layne

Brian Hill

and I think it's Derek Wilkinson, not Howard.

Yes saw him Gibson, and Leicester team mates Bobby Roberts and Jackie Sinclair (I think all three were Scottish) give the Blades a runaround at the Lane around 1967ish. Derek Dougan and a young Peter Shilton also playing for the Foxes that day.

l really liked to watch "The Doog" play, my type of centre forward, even against my team.

Sheffield Wednesday Autograph help

I presume you handed the autograph book in for it to be taken to the changing rooms. Some players do take liberties and sign for other players. This has unfortunately happened in your case. Some signatures are fake, some genuine.

A genuine Gerry Young moniker is this

A genuine David Ford sig is this

A genuine Dave Gibson autograph are these 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Leicester, Exeter, Scotland

The Don Megson autograph is doubtful. Here is one.

A signature not mentioned but in the autograph book is Harry Gregory, Aston Vanilla 1 2 and Charlton 1 2 3. Its genuine.

Johnny Phantom is real

John Hickton is genuine 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Here are some big Ronnie signatures. 1 2 3 4 5 6 and erm 7
