ecclesallcc   10 #1 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) The Sheffield and District Chess League is one of the largest Leagues in Yorkshire, and Yorkshire has more chess clubs than any area outside London.  Sheffield Area Chess is therefore one of the biggest deals around.  9 Clubs from Sheffield take part in the league together with 8 teams from outside Sheffield.  The Sheffield team players get together to play weekend chess in the Yorkshire League running 6 teams.  So what is Chess like in the Sheffield Leagues?  At our club Ecclesall Chess Club we have some of the areas strongest players, finishing second in the Sheffield League last season.  We also have a wide range of playing abilities at the club. We have 5 Sheffield League Teams, 1 in Division 1, 2 in Division 3 and 2 in Division 5.  Lightning Tournaments are run through the summer months. A summer league team also plays in the summer.  Lots of members play in the Stars Barred Club Tournament which essentially means that you can play in it providing that you don't play regularly for the first team.  There are beginners who play in the tournament and the only stipulation is that you must enjoy your chess.  If you want to play chess but don't think that you are good enough to compete yet, chess coaching is available by Ken Norbury ECF Accredited Chess Coach, generally accepted to be Sheffield's top chess coach.  So please look at playing chess in the Sheffield League. You will be made especially welcome at Ecclesall Chess Club.  We meet at the Abbey Pub, 944 Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, Sheffield S8 0SH from 7.30 pm on Wednesdays  ---------- Post added 15-08-2014 at 12:34 ----------  Ecclesall Chess Club website is at http://www.ecclesallcc.weebly.com Edited August 15, 2014 by ecclesallcc
 Share this content via...
