iansheff   84 #1 Posted July 29, 2017 I have a 1TB Western Digital portable HD but I cannot remember the password to open it. I connected it to the pc which I initially installed it on but cannot find a way to get to the password and change it. If I plug it into another laptop and try various passwords it eventually comes up with a window saying I can erase the drive. If I click on that will it totally erase the data, (I am not that bothered about losing it) will it just leave the drive like a memory stick. i.e. not locked and will I then be able to plug it into my TV to record onto? Or will it erase the data but keep the progrram that allows the disk to be secured? Anyone got any ideas?
 Share this content via...

Hopman   46 #4 Posted July 30, 2017 Is there a "Personal Settings" file on the PC? Does this have the password?
 Share this content via...
iansheff   84 #5 Posted July 31, 2017 Is there a "Personal Settings" file on the PC? Does this have the password?  No I had a look and couldn't find it, if it just reformats then it will be fine. Mind you can't remember what is on the drive.
 Share this content via...
