RAILWAY RAMBLES with the PENISTONE LINE PARTNERSHIP

 

Support use of the local train services on the scenic ‘Penistone Line’ ( Sheffield Midland - Meadowhall - Barnsley - Penistone - Huddersfield).

 

Walks are also held using the Sheffield Midland - Worksop - Retford - Lincoln line and the iconic ‘Brigg Line’ (Sheffield Gainsborough Central - Kirton In Lindsey - Brigg - Cleethorpes).

 

Walks are held on the first, third and fifth Saturdays each month.

 

All are welcome to join in these ‘railway rambles’ – the walks are free but train or bus fares apply.

 

Wear suitable clothing & footwear – bring along a packed lunch & drink.

 

Trains depart from SHEFFIELD and MEADOWHALL stations.

Saturday MAY 7th 2016 – Valleys, Hills & Moors !

 

 

Starting from Dronfield station, we walk into the unspoilt Cordwell Valley and up into the Peak District National Park Eastern Moors estate noted for its wildlife before descending into the Derwent Valley and a return train home from Grindleford station on the Hope Valley Line.

 

 

Start: 10.15am at DRONFIELD

Finish: GRINDLEFORD

Distance: 9 miles.

Saturday MAY 21st 2016 – KAWS For Thought !

 

A steady climb to Lower Cumberworth, then onto Skelmanthorpe, Bagden Hall and the Dearne Way to Bretton Hall – Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Through the park and back to Darton along Woolley Edge via the Barnsley Boundary Walk.

(Bus option No.96 to Barnsley & Wakefield from YSP).

 

Start: 9.45am at SHEPLEY

Finish: DARTON

Distance: 10 miles.

Saturday JUNE 4th 2016 – Pie In Your Eye !

 

A superb walk in the south Pennines taking in Clayton West, High Hoyland and Bagden.

 

Start: 9.35am at DENBY DALE

Finish: DENBY DALE

Distance: 9 miles.

Saturday JUNE 18th 2016 - Sadly, George Couldn’t Be On this Trip !

 

 

Starting out from Penistone station, we wend our way to Bridge End and Top o’th’ Town. Scout Dyke beckons with Ingbirchworth in sight. Fall Edge Farm and Fall Edge Lane take us to Upper Denby but sadly no pub stop! Denby Delf, High Flatts and Upper Cumberworth take us to our destination.

Finish: SHEPLEY

Distance: 9 miles.

Saturday JULY 2nd 2016 – This Mill Is Not For Turning !

 

Supporting the Saturdays-only limited train service on the delightful ‘Brigg Line’, we follow the River Ancholme to Hibaldstow then across fieldpaths to make a return visit to Mount Pleasant windmill at Kirton-in-Lindsey which sadly lost its sails in a gale late last year.

However a warm welcome always awaits at their delightful tearoom!

(Return train to Sheffield departs Kirton Lindsey at 16.02).

 

Start: 9.30am at BRIGG

Finish: KIRTON in LINDSEY

Distance: 8 miles.

Saturday JULY 16th 2016 – Oh Deer - Marsden !

 

A linear route via Oldfield, Honley Wood, Meltham Mills, Helme, Moor View and Deer Hill reservoir across to Marsden.

 

Start: 9.40am at BROCKHOLES

Finish: MARSDEN

Distance: 8 miles.

Leader: Tony Pogson

Saturday JULY 30th 2016 – The Three Shires Walk !

 

A pleasant walk taking in canal past & present, picturesque villages, a superb medieval chapel and close by the old Shire Oak.

(Bus option at Whitwell (5m) No.77 to Worksop & Chesterfield or train to Worksop & Nottm or at Harthill (9m) No.26 to Crystal Peaks

or No.74 to Sheffield).

 

Start: 10.15am at WORKSOP

Finish: KIVETON PARK

Distance: 12 miles.

Saturday AUGUST 6th 2016 – It’s Not A Crime To Walk This Walk !

 

A linear walk into the heartland of the Holme Valley and beyond. Starting at Brockholes and finishing at Stocksmoor with possible refreshment in The Clothiers!.

Finish: STOCKSMOOR

Distance: 10 miles.

Saturday AUGUST 20th 2016 – The Trail Of The Halls !

 

A pleasant walk on the Kirklees Way via Cannon Hall, potting shed to Silkstone.

 

Start: 9.40am at DENBY DALE

Finish: SILKSTONE COMMON

Distance: 9½ miles.

Leader: Robert Fisher
