petemcewan   27 #16 Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) Halibut,  I've read his book twice.   I do not want to liable him . When he gave his lecture, he described his work has conferred upon him God like feelings. You know, the power of life and death.  The following is good news. Although surgeons get on the list -according to a psychologist at Oxford University- most doctors -aren’t psychopathic. Waldo   96 #17 Posted September 20, 2018 The surgeon one is what bothers me, I have two surgeries pending.  Isnt being a psychopath, a good thing for a surgeon? It's something where being emotional could be a distraction?
 Share this content via...
Ridgewalk   90 #18 Posted September 20, 2018 Isnt being a psychopath, a good thing for a surgeon? It's something where being emotional could be a distraction?   I would have thought so. Doesn’t mean he/she lacks ability. Although anger is an emotion.  ---------- Post added 20-09-2018 at 13:15 ----------  Interesting how it seems to be only, or usually, men who are given the label’ of psychopath. I’ve worked with quite a lot of women who seem to lack empathy, are scheming and manipulative.  There is a contributor to this forum who seems to have narcissistic tendencies, whether or not meeting the diagnostic threshold for psychopathy.  No names mentioned.  ---------- Post added 20-09-2018 at 13:20 ----------  Sometimes, depends on the case in question.   Always baffled me that. Why is it some psychopaths who kill end up in the Mental Health Systèm, ( albeit High Secure Hospitals) and others in the slammer. It’s probably a «* treatability*» issue.  «* Treatment*» of psychopaths, is it a misnomer ?
 Share this content via...

petemcewan   27 #20 Posted September 20, 2018 (edited) Ridgewalk,  The following link sheds some light on the emotional state of surgeons.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4657990/  As you will deduce, there hasn't been much research undertaken on the subject.   If I had to undergo a serious operation I would prefer a surgeon who is not on the spectrum. Ridgewalk   90 #23 Posted September 21, 2018 It is currently being seen as less and less diagnosable.   It is a useless lable. A moral judgement masquerading as a diagnosis  ---------- Post added 21-09-2018 at 07:59 ----------  To be fair, the term Psychopath has always been a legal definition under successive Mental Health Acts, 1959,1983, never a diagnosis. To contradict myself.
 Share this content via...
