alarmingmark   32 #4 Posted April 23, 2018 Broad band can work on one wire of the pair ( but normally slower) if the phones are cordless get a standard basic phone and check for dial tone , last resort get a multimeter and check for 50v dc at the incoming master socket
 Share this content via...

The two ends of the cable break behave like a capacitor or transformer, albeit very inefficiently. But obviously the DC voltage on the line cannot easily bridge the gap so the phone ceases to work. But even so a break in one wire of the pair will still degrade broadband performance even if it does manage to struggle through
 Share this content via...

She phoned p. n. and they are sending openreach out today [ wed] so will let you know what they say . They are wanting £65 if fault is internal . AlexAtkin   10 #12 Posted May 12, 2018 I'm a bit puzzled PlusNet did not recommend this, its basically step 1 in fault finding!  I can only guess the user didn't understand what they were asking.
 Share this content via...
