Anyone here from Attercliffe? (Part 2)

Recommended Posts

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the excellent pic. So there were two Burtons in Attercliffe then :)

Thanks too to raymondo 1952 and Pauline Bell for your responses.

Sorry Pauline if I didn't make it clear that the building I was asking questions about is the one at the junction of Vicarage Road and Attercliffe Road and not the one you refer to at the junction of Attercliffe Road and Staniforth Road.

Regards, Peter.

Hi All,

Below is a pic of the Adelphi on Vicarage Road taken recently by member brian1941, followed by one from Picture Sheffield in July 1980.....

Here is another pic from Picture Sheffield showing the Adelphi and another building next to it at the corner with Attercliffe Road.....

We have a question. Can anyone tell us what this 'other' building was originally and if it still stands?.

I've seen it described as Burtons elsewhere but think this may be incorrect as there was a Burtons at the corner of Attercliffe Road and Staniforth Road in the building shown here...

Hi,yes I did have a sister called Carol but she has now passed on. I have a terrible memory I cannot remember who lived at 48. The only people I recll is a couple that lived by the yard entrance who at the time seamed quite elderly to me as a small child. They did not have kids and they were the first people to have a telly in our yard. I remember me and Carol going into their house to watch telly for an hour on Sundays I believe and she used to put my hair in rags to make my hair fall into ringlets. Such a long time ago. I live down south so do not get back home very often. ( Still think of Sheffield as home even though I left in 1984) Only seem to go back for family occasions. I last went back for my sister's funeral. I had to stay over and booked on line a hotel Ibis which turned out to have been built in the grounds of one of my old school, which is still there.Carbrook school. I took a walk down to were Swan street used to be, of course it is no longer there made me feel a little sad. Then I walked to my next school which was Coleridge rd shcool that to was still there.

I was from Baldwin street, Green Dragon pub top of the road, near the Non Pots working mans club. Went to Huntsman Gardens then Hartley Brook left 1963.

Great days at the central Carol Watts taught us how to bop.

Lived on Charles street when first married then moved to the Manor when they knocked down the houses.
