L00b   441 #2 Posted January 15, 2018 (edited) Query as to whether downloading to mp4 device is illegal as when camping you won't be wanting/needing to have other device. Which is what I have done previously - have the rules changed?I'd say it depends on the T&Cs of your service provider and/or the source of your mp4s, since many (e.g. Netflix, BBC iPlayer) allow users to do exactly that, perfectly legitimately indeed. EDIT (for extra context): generally speaking, the 'private copying exception' in the UK is still more-or-less in flux as of January 2018 (but effectively deemed not to be exist), after the High Court quashed the 2014 Copyright and Rights in Performance (Personal Copies for Private Use) Regulations, in a judicial review in 2015, since these Regs have still not been 'replaced' by the Commons nor the government.  It's only permitted within the confines of your personal contract with an authorised media provider (e.g. Netflix, BBC iPlayer, iTunes <...>), which is authorised to provide the service facility by relevant copyright owners (most probably because it has proven that it has the relevant systems in place to 'track' download numbers per media file, and so pay the correct royalties <etc.>).  Edited January 15, 2018 by L00b
 Share this content via...
alchresearch   214 #3 Posted January 16, 2018 Youtube T&C's:  you agree not to access Content or any reason other than your personal, non-commercial use solely as intended through and permitted by the normal functionality of the Service, and solely for Streaming. "Streaming" means a contemporaneous digital transmission of the material by YouTube via the Internet to a user operated Internet enabled device in such a manner that the data is intended for real-time viewing and not intended to be downloaded (either permanently or temporarily), copied, stored, or redistributed by the user.  https://www.youtube.com/static?gl=GB&template=terms
 Share this content via...
